Donovan Widmer has served as an Assistant Professor of Art at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks,
North Dakota since 2004, where he teaches the Jewelry/Metalsmithing emphasis area. Mr. Widmer received his Bachelor
of Fine Arts degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and his Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of
Art at Illinois State University. Mr. Widmer has worked professionally as a metalsmith for several years.
Mr. Widmer’s work has been exhibited in international, national, regional,
and local University and College
galleries, as well as, commercial galleries. The solo-exhibitions, two-person exhibitions, and group exhibitions
have included venues in New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Oregon, and California. His works have been shown
in international galleries in London, Spain, and Norway. In conjunction with many of these exhibitions,
Mr. Widmer has been invited as a Visiting Artist nationally and regionally to many Universities and Colleges
to present lectures on his research, conduct workshops, and critique graduate and undergraduate students’ research.
In addition, illustrations of
Mr. Widmer’s artwork have been included in four books.
Mr. Widmer’s artwork is assembled from found materials and appropriated images that are deconstructed and
combined with fabricated elements produced from precious and semi-precious materials. The artworks examine
and critically assess the evolution of our present cultures ideologies.
